Heart of Uwchlan Awards - celebrating our volunteers

NF Volunteer Dinner

On Wednesday, November 15th, we recognized our Uwchlan Township volunteers with a celebration dinner. This was to acknowledge and show our appreciation for our dedicated volunteers who support the activities of our various boards, committees, and councils.

Heart of Uwchlan Awards: a new tradition

This year, the Board of Supervisors have started a new tradition by presenting Heart of Uwchlan Awards.

The Award recognizes volunteers who have gone above and beyond, acknowledging their hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving Uwchlan Township and our wider community.

Toni Gorkin – Heart of Uwchlan Award Recipient

Toni Gorkin has been a serving member on the Uwchlan Township Environmental Advisory Group for over five years. She developed a proposal for the “Heart of Uwchlan” project, that aims to introduce native plants and enhance biosecurity in our community.

Toni has played a key role in planning and maintaining our three gardens in Baird Park. These gardens are enrolled in the Homegrown National Park initiative – a national project with a goal of planting 20 million acres of native plants in the United States.

Additionally, Toni has been instrumental in providing public education and outreach in our community. From hosting milkweed planting workshops, to supporting young Scout troops to gain their gardening badges, Toni has connected with our community through her teaching and dedication to the environment.

Given Toni’s drive to bring the “Heart of Uwchlan” project to life, it is only fitting that she be the first recipient of the Heart of Uwchlan Award. Congratulations Toni!

Bill Fagan – Heart of Uwchlan Award Recipient

Our second award recipient is Bill Fagan. Bill was one of the founding members of the Uwchlan Township Community Day, an event that has now been running for 25 years. He was also a co-founder for the David J. Good memorial run, a 5k event honoring Lionville Firefighters killed in the line of duty. This event was held annually for 20 years.

Since 1986, Bill has been a serving member on our Parks & Recreation Committee, supporting the promotion and use of the Township’s well-established parks and trails network. He has also spent time serving the Downingtown Area Recreation Consortium as well as the Downingtown Senior Center.

With decades of volunteer hours under his belt, Bill is our second recipient of this year’s Heart of Uwchlan Award. Congratulations Bill!

While we couldn’t give awards to everyone, we still want to acknowledge all those who have dedicated their time and resources to the Township. To all our volunteers, thank you for all that you do. Your contributions and hard work are what make our Township community so special.
