1. What do I do with old paint?

The trash hauler will not take cans of wet paint. Latex paint is not a hazardous waste which means it can be put out with your regular trash after it has been solidified.  This can be accomplished by simply removing the lid and allowing it to harden, mixing it with sawdust, kitty litter or rags.  Do not replace the lid so the hauler knows all liquid has been absorbed.

2. When can I put out bulk items for trash pickup?

Each resident is permitted one bulk item per week. A bulk item could be a sofa, a chair, mattress and box spring, push lawn mower, one room’s worth of carpeting, or appliances. Appliances containing Freon will be collected by appointment only. Please call Eagle Disposal at 717-355-9560 to schedule collection. The Chester County landfill will be charging $25 per item for disposal of mattresses and/or box springs placed for curbside collection. That charge will be on your trash bill. If you place both a mattress and box spring curbside, the charge will be $50. We strongly encourage people to have the company that sells them a new mattress and box spring take their old one. These companies are usually set up to recycle these. Mattresses are difficult to dispose of in the landfill. They take up a lot of space and are not very compressible. *PLEASE call to schedule a pickup 610-363-9450.

3. Where do I get a new recycling bin?

New low rectangular recycling containers are available for $10 each at the township building. 715 North Ship Rd Exton, PA 19341. You can also purchase any recycling container you wish at Home Depot/Lowes/Hardware Store. The container just needs to be clearly marked that it is for recycles.

4. What do I do with old refrigerators?

5. How do I recycle cardboard boxes?

If you want cardboard boxes taken as recycling, flatten all boxes and place along side of your recycling bins. Boxes filled with trash or other items, such as leaves, will not be recycled. If your boxes are very large, you may have to cut them down to a more manageable size.

6. How do I dispose of medication?

Collection boxes for disposal of medications are set up at the county Justice Center and the Police Department buildings that serve East Brandywine, Kennett Square, New Garden, North Coventry, Parkesburg, Phoenixville, West Goshen, West Whiteland, Westtown, and East Goshen.
