Trash & Recycling

*** Please note: the yard waste collection schedule has changed ***

From January 8th, yard waste is collected during yard waste weeks. It's collected on your regular pickup day. Please see the 2023 Trash and Recycling Calendar for more details. 2023 Yard Waste Calendar Opens in new window

Collection times

Please make sure all trash and recycling is curbside by 6:00 a.m. on your pick-up day – even if the truck comes later in the day.

We recommend  you put all trash & recycling out the night before. Do not place trash and recycling in the street.

If the holiday falls on a week day, collection will be delayed by one day during the week.

If a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, there is no change in service.

Our trash contractor, Eagle Disposal, observes the following holidays:

  • New Years’ Day
  • Memorial Day
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Waste disposal information

Keeping your cans and bags tidy will help the trucks clear your waste. Here’s some things you can do to help:

Household trash

  • Make sure your bags or cans are less than 50 pounds each.
  • Seal your trash in a bag before placing it into the trash can – this stops loose trash spilling out when collected.
  • Make sure any trash cans or containers have a lid.

  •  Remember to rinse all food and drink containers thoroughly.
  •  Lids and caps are not recyclable – please throw these in the trash.

For more tips and guidance, see our information on recyclable items

Yard waste

The Township contracts Eagle Disposal to collect yard waste. There is a separate truck for yard waste – it isn’t collected in the trash truck.

  • Make sure to use biodegradable paper bags for collection. Plastic bags won’t be collected.
  • There’s no limit to the number of bags allowed.
  • Tie small branches into bundles (up to 4 inches in diameter & 4 feet in length)
  • Tree trunks and large branches won’t be collected.

Bulk items

You can put out one bulk item each week for pick up, along with your regular trash. Some examples of bulk items are:

  • Appliances
  • Furniture
  • Lawn mowers (oil and gasoline removed)
  • Toilets and sinks (please separate the cistern from the bowl)
  • Up to three 4-foot rolls of carpet (tied)

For more information, see our Bulk items page.

Mattresses and box springs

Mattresses can be hard to dispose of and it’s good if we can recycle them instead of sending them to landfill. This is because they take up a lot of space and do not compress well.

If you need to dispose of a mattress and/or box springs, you can:

  • Ask the mattress company of your new mattress if they’ll take your old one (they can often recycle them).
  • Call us to schedule a pick up for landfill – Chester County Landfill charges $25.00 per item.
    Our number is 610-363-9450

For more information, see our Bulk items page.

Townhouse Residents

These Homeowners Associations contract trash and recycling privately:

  • Aspenwood Condominiums
  • Liongate
  • Pickering Pointe
  • Village Walk

If you live in one of these areas, the Township bills you for sewer only.
